Control Panel

Burglar Alarm Systems – Control Panel provides the central processing and logic for an integrated system. In a typical system, there are four major functions: inputs, outputs, user interfaces, and communication. When an alarm-initiating device, such as a motion detector, glass break sensor, or smoke detector is activated into an alarm, it changes the state of the zone input to which it is connected. The zone input reports the status change to the control panel. In addition, the control panel activates local sounders and other notification appliances and provides status information at user interfaces such as keypads where the system can be controlled and interrogated.

There are a number of installation and design strategies for connecting sensors to the system. One common method is to design the system using conventional sensors connected to individual cables routed back to the control panel. Also known as a centralized or home-run approach, this is a typical approach when using conventional sensors that provide a dry-contact output.

Zones

When installing devices on the system, you can design a single zone to accept one or more devices connected together. When more than one device is connected to a zone, the system only provides Identification for the zone itself. When installing a single device in each zone, each device becomes an individually identified zone.

Door Sensors

The door or window position sensor is a frame-mounted sensor that detects the open or closed position of a door. When the door is open, the sensor sends status data to the control panel indicating the open position. Likewise, when the door is closed, the sensor sends data to the control panel indicating the closed position.

The door or window sensor can be used in intrusion detection, access control, remote control, annunciation systems, and in energy management applications. Connecting the door contact through the system allows for all of these applications to be addressed using a single contact for each door, as opposed to multiple contacts at a single door being connected to multiple systems.

Users see the status and alarms from the sensor at the local keypad. The control panel can also send a message to the monitoring station.

When selecting the right sensor for your door, consider your selection from a variety of sensor styles that are designed to most closely fit your application.

PIR

Sensing Motion in Rooms and Areas Motion detectors can help you to determine if someone is moving in protected rooms or areas. The ceiling or wall-mounted devices detect movement within the protected area and analyze the motion to determine if an actual intrusion occurred. If the sensor detects motion when the system is armed, an alarm message is sent to the central monitoring station. While the system is disarmed, it monitors the motion throughout the day but does not send alarm messages. It can, however, send messages if someone tampers with the detector.

Roof access provides intruders with a concealed area to enter buildings. Motion detectors help you to determine if the access occurs after hours, even when other detection devices are not activated by typical use. The control panel can also send a message to the customers.

Home Security can be a big investment and commitment… asking the right questions and doing your research is the best way for you to find the perfect alarm system!
